24,188 TEU Massive Container Ship OOCL Spain Makes Debut Port Call In Hamburg

One of the world’s biggest Megamax containerships, the OOCL Spain, made a debut port call in Hamburg. The behemoth visited the Port of Hamburg’s Container Terminal Tollerort on 1st May.

The 399.9 m long ship is owned by Hong-Kong Based shipping major Orient Overseas Container Line and was constructed by Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering.

With a breadth of 61.3 m, the boxship has a capacity of 24,188 TEUs, making it one of the largest container ships in the world according to carrying capacity.

Her delivery ceremony was held earlier this year in February. She is known for her intelligent technology, and her makers believe she will be fuel efficient compared to other ships. American Bureau of Shipping honoured OOCL Spain with 3 Smart Ship Certificates.

CEO Axel Mattern of Port of Hamburg Marketing said, “The call by the ‘OOCL Spain’ has cemented the trend for more and more Megamax vessels to call at the Port of Hamburg. It is obviously crucial that we should maintain our waterway in good condition if we are to remain competitive.”
