The Compagnie bretonne has just confirmed the chartering of a third ferry type E- Flexer. This new vessel will be the second E-Flexer powered by LNG (Natural Gas Gas). It will be built at the AVIC Shipyard in Weihai, China and is expected to join the Brittany Ferries fleet in 2023.
This new unit, whose name is not yet known, will be sold by the group Stena. When it is put into service, it will be the third E-Flexer type fleet of Brittany Ferries, following the arrival of Galicia in 2021 and Salamanca in 2022.
The charter agreement which includes a call option constitutes a new stage in the fleet renewal program and the transition of the company represents an investment of approximately 550 million euros. Program in which also the Honfleur, currently under construction FSG shipyard in Flensburg, Germany, which is scheduled to be delivered late 2019.
Brittany Ferries, the leading employer of French sailors, continues with this ship, its commitment to sustainable development. Like Salamanca and Honfleur, this new unit will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). More respectful of the environment, this fuel reduces carbon dioxide by approximately 20% and reduces the sulfur and nitrogen as well as almost zero particles.

This investment reflects, after Brexit, our confidence in the future, and our ability to meet the demands passengers and freight over the coming decades. It also clearly demonstrates our commitment to LNG and confirms our willingness to operate more efficient, more environmentally friendly and more comfortable vessels “.
The three E-Flexer vessels of 42,200 tonnes each will be the largest of the Brittany Ferries fleet, with a length of 215 meters allowing to have 3000 linear meters for freight vehicles, a capacity of approximately 1000 passengers and 340 cabins.
