What is Accessorial Charges in Logistics?

Accessorial charges are charged to the customer by freight movers for extra services rendered during the pick-up or delivery of a consignment.

These are extra charges that are not part of the normal agreed charges for pick-up and delivery.

Accessorial charges are normally added to the freight invoice.

Accessorial charges may be applied for a wide range of services provided by the freight mover to the customer. A few examples are given below.

  • Container detention
  • Re-routing of cargo
  • Additional equipment used for loading, unloading, and handling.
  • Sorting or segregation of products
