A World Food Programme (WFP)-chartered ship loaded with 37,000 metric tonnes of wheat departed from Ukraine’s Black Sea port of Yuznhy on Tuesday, the UN agency reportedly mentioned in its statement. It has set sail for Yemen.
It further added that this is the second shipment of WFP food aid to set sail from Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
It stated that the shipment would extend assistance to almost four million individuals in Yemen for a month.
Since late 2014, Yemen has been mired in a civil war that has led to the collapse of the country’s economy, pushing millions of people to the brink of famine, per reports from the Xinhua news agency.
