Iran Guards Seize Foreign Vessel In The Gulf Over Diesel Smuggling

Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards have reportedly seized a foreign ship in the Gulf for allegedly smuggling about 757,000 litres of diesel from Iran, per reports of Iran’s state news agency (IRNA) received on Saturday.

Seven foreign crew members onboard the unnamed vessel have been safely handed over to the relevant legal authorities, the IRNA reported, without disclosing the nationalities of the ship or the crew members.

Iran, which has some of the world’s lowest fuel prices owing to heavy subsidies and the plunge in the value of its national currency, has constantly been fighting fuel smuggling both by land to its neighbouring nations and by sea to the states of the Gulf Arab.

The Guards have detained many ships over the past few months because of smuggling fuel in the Gulf.
