The five seafarers that went missing in Indonesian waters from the Malaysian cargo ship MV Dai Cat 06 have been identified by the Johor Baru Maritime Rescue Sub Centre as two sailors, Derrent Littor and Mohammad Sudeh Sudin, and chief officer Mohammad Syafarizan Mohd Noor from Malaysia, and a shipmaster Adi and Damai Papane Ole from Indonesia.
The cargo ship was carrying 527 pipes worth RM726,205 when it went missing on January 9, said First Admiral Nurul Hizam Zakaria of Johor Maritime. A missing report was filed by the ship’s agent on the same day around 12.11 pm local time.
The ship was travelling from Kampung Acheh in Perak to Kuching, Sarawak, where it was scheduled to berth on December 31 after a journey of 7 days starting from December 23. However, it disappeared from the radar on January 1, when it was last detected 0.2 nautical miles away from Johor water in Indonesia.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency received a radio beacon signal from the ship on January 9, 10:42 pm local time, when it was 30 miles north-west Pemangkat, Indonesia.
The National Search and Rescue Agency of Indonesia is working to locate the ship as of January 11.
