The Cochin Shipyard Ltd has reportedly bagged an entire order for designing and building the world’s first and newest Zero-Emission Feeder Container Vessel with a facility for developing two more, a BSE filing from the firm reported on Friday.
The vessels are going to boast Hydrogen Fuel Cells enabled by Green Hydrogen.
An international logistics provider, The Samskip Group, has reportedly ordered to build more no-emission feeder container vessels, and they can make two additional ships.
Norway’s governmental green funding assignment is about promoting emission-free, unique transport solutions. The target is to do so by deploying sustainable future technologies, and such an ambitious project comes under its purview.
The project cost for the firm order is about Rs. 550 crores, and the first-ever vessel is expected to be delivered in about 28 months and the second in 34 months.
The vessels can be loaded with approximately 365 45-foot cube containers. These will likely serve the European Market as the demand for advanced and sustainable transportation is high, per the compliance filing reporting at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
These vessels are expected to lower about 25,000 tons of CO2 annually in zero-emission mode. They will also operate on sustainable shore power while it is docked at the port of call, empowering them to satisfy zero-emission missions. The delivery of the vessels is planned to begin in the third quarter of 2025. The ship will incorporate a hybrid power model comprising Hydrogen Fuel cells, and for better endurance, they will boast a Diesel Generator backup.
The firm reportedly mentioned that no promoter group, promoter, or group firms have interests in the entity that had awarded this order. Further, the said order does not come under the purview of any related party transactions.
For over 20 years, Cochin Shipyard Limited has reportedly been involved in the worldwide shipbuilding industry. It has also exported top-notch vessels to many nations, including Norway, the US, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and the Middle East.
