The Belfast shipyard named Harland & Wolff has reportedly delivered its first-ever complete vessel in over 20 years.
It has successfully delivered a barge to Cory, a waste management major based in London, the first of the 23 ordered from this shipyard.
The last vessel to be built at this yard was the Anvil Point, launched back in 2003.
Harland & Wolff is set to start working on a more complex and bigger contract for the Royal Navy in 2025.
It belongs to the Team Resolute consortium that is going to construct three naval support vessels.
The vessels are going to provide stores, munitions, and provisions to the aircraft carriers, frigates, and destroyers that are deployed at sea.
The final assembly for these vessels is expected to be carried out in Belfast.
John Wood, the chief executive of Harland & Wolff, mentioned that it was wonderful to witness the first vessel being built in the yard since they acquired it in 2019 (December).
He further added that the barge contract would enable them to build up the much-needed workforce, as well as skills they will need, ahead of the work on the new naval vessels.
