Here’s 3D simulation of the SEWOL fatal passage, as recorded by the Korean marine authorities using AIS.
The replay has been modified to present correct vessel heading – original data suffered from the vessel’s gyroscope’s failure, which shown the vessel in incorrect orientation after completing the turn. The officially quoted reason for this was a gyroscope power failure.
The unfortunate ferry that capsized in April 2014, left 304 people, most of them school children, dead or missing.
