For a seafarer, it is always difficult to explain what life at sea is like, especially to those who have no knowledge of the same. Many people outside of the industry have a certain idea of seafaring lifestyle which is basically a product of hollywood movies and glamor magazines. This lack of knowledge often results is a series of absurd and nonsensical questions which are as difficult to believe as they are to answer.
“A wife at every port” and “Sailors are always drunk” are some of the most common myths people have about those who go to the sea. Blame it on the maritime history, lack of proper education, or hollywood movies, the fact remains that until today seafarers have to justify themselves to separate themselves from the deep-rooted perceptions people have about sailors and the maritime industry.
Inspired from our previous article 12 common myths about merchant navy people written by Shilavadra Bhattacharjee, this infographic is to educate people about the careers at sea and to eradicate common myths that have been going on since long.
