About eight crew members of a tugboat were rescued on October 9 after the vessel reportedly sank in the waters of Golo Island in Occidental Mindoro province, per a social media post published by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
The M/B RG Brothers initially rescued the five members of the tugboat Betheva 2’s crew on October 8. They were reportedly taken to Golo Island’s Barangay (village) Talaotao for medical assistance.
Alfie Dangue, the tugboat’s captain and one of those who were first rescued, mentioned in a social media post published by the PCG that they’d been sailing from Manila’s South Harbor while going to Rio Tuba, Palawan. During that time, they suddenly encountered a massive wave that led to flooding in the ship’s engine room.
The tugboat eventually sank close to 2:30 pm on Saturday.
