On Saturday, India’s Navy announced that on 28 October, it received the first P15B stealth guided-missile destroyer. It is named “Visakhapatnam”, per the official notice.
It also states that the Visakhapatnam vessel is a testament to the Indian government’s and the Navy’s programs on indigenous construction of warships. It is the first of its kind to be launched in the Indian Navy.
On Twitter, the Indian Navy declared that Visakhapatnam – the first indigenous P15B stealth missile destroyer manufactured at Mazagon Dock in Mumbai – was delivered to the country’s Navy on 28 October 2021. The missile destroyer vessel can launch anti-aircraft missiles directly from the ship’s deck.
The Navy added that the much-awaited induction of this is expected to enhance the combat readiness of the country’s Navy. It is a huge leap toward the quest for a self-reliant country or, in other words – Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
The defense sector in India is steadily upgrading the defense mechanisms over the last month, as enhanced equipment is being launched across armed forces. The Army, recently, envisaged upgrading vintage L-70 air defense guns in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh.
The guns were launched in the Army at the beginning of this month. Officials said the guns can be integrated with fire control and tactical control radars.
