Million Dollar Yachts Of Russian Billionaires Continue To Be Seized

Italy reported Friday that it had seized a Russian oligarch’s yacht dubbed ‘Lady M Yacht’. He was close to Vladimir Putin and is also subject to EU sanctions. Italy’s police seized the 65 million euros vessel that belonged to Alexey Alexandrovits Mordaschov — complying with the latest EU sanctions. A media adviser to Italy’s PM, named Ferdinando Giugliano, mentioned in a tweet.

Steel magnate Mordashov is the owner of Severstal group. He is one of the ultra-wealthy and influential Russians to be blacklisted by Brussels for apparent closeness to the Kremlin.

Igor Sechin’s yacht Amore Vero, CEO of Rosneft, a Russian oil enterprise, on Wednesday was seized by the French authorities as it was just about to leave. EU’s sanction documents call Sechin, the former deputy PM of Russia, one of Putin’s closest and trusted advisers and a personal friend per a CNBC report.

Alisher Usmanov’s yacht was reportedly seized on Wednesday by German authorities in Hamburg, per Forbes. However, it retracted the reporting later on. Alisher Usmanov happens to be the 94th richest individual in the world, per Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index. Dilbar is his 500-foot superyacht, which boasts a 25-meter big swimming pool. The luxury boat was named after his mother and is worth nearly $600 million, per Reuters. The UK and US have sanctioned Alisher Usmanov this week.

Russian iron and steel magnate Viktor Rashnikov is the owner of $300 million “Ocean Victory”. The vessel boasts six pools, an internal helicopter hangar, an underwater observation room, and a helideck, per superyachtfan.com.

With a net worth of almost $10 billion, Rashnikov — who had started as a mechanic for Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works, the enterprise he is a majority owner of now — features on No. 195 on Forbes’ 2021 list of billionaires.

The “Solaris” is a superyacht that belongs to Roman Abramovich, a Russian billionaire. He was moored in Barcelona on 1 March 2022. Roman Abramovich— a Russian billionaire, Putin’s supporter, and owner of Chelsea Football Club — owns the more than 450-foot My Solaris, worth $600 million, per superyachtfan.com. Abramovich is the owner of yet another superyacht, named the Eclipse, worth $700 million, per the site. He has not yet been sanctioned in the Uk or the US.

Vladimir Potanin, one of the richest men in Russia, is the owner of the Nirvana, a megayacht that can accommodate up to 12 guests and a crew of 18 individuals, per superyachtfan.com. He also owns Barbara, yet another megayacht. Potanin features on No. 55 on Forbes’ Billionaires 2021 list—owns more than one-third of Norilsk Nickel, a mining firm, as well as stakes in a pharmaceutical firm and a ski resort.

Oleg Deripaska, the founder of Rusal, the Russian aluminum group, is also the owner of a $65 million superyacht dubbed “Clio”. It is supported by a boat “Sputnik” per superyachtfan.com. Sanctions against three of Deripaska’s companies had been lifted by Donald Trump. Deripaska has recently called for an end to the ongoing war, joining the oligarchs who have dared speak out against the sudden invasion of Ukraine.
