Satellite Images Show Limpet Mine-Hit Iranian Vessel Still In The Same Position

Satellite images show that the recently blasted Iranian ship controlled by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard hasn’t moved after the blast. The cargo ship Saviz is lying at the same position in the Red Sea between Yemen and Eritrea, reveals satellite images released by a private Israeli intelligence firm on Sunday.

Earlier Iran has blamed Israel for the limpet mine blast on the ship. The ship acts as a floating base to launch Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard forces off the coast of Yemen.

According to New York Times report, an American official has revealed that Israel termed the incident a retaliation for previous attacks on Israeli ships that have happened in recent weeks.

Both Iran and Israel are into a prolonged maritime shadow war where both their ships have been attacked repeatedly. In the past 2-3 months, 2 Israeli ships have been damaged by suspected attacks from Iran.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Republic’s Military has vouched to strike back. “Tehran would wait to respond until the completion of an investigation into the incident”, said Brig. Gen. Abolfazl Shekarchi

This comes at a time when Iran and Israel tension is intensifying over the issue of lifting US sanctions on Iran’s nuclear deal. Meanwhile, a power cut in the Iranian nuclear facility at Natanz has further aggravated the situation. Iran has termed the power cut issue as ‘nuclear terrorism’.

The power cut caused a 9-month setback to the uranium enrichment ability of Iran as the centrifuges were damaged. Israeli and American intelligence officials have hinted that a possible cyberattack from Israel is behind this power cut.
