The CMA CGM Group continues deploying the biggest vessel, in capacity, at the Port of Melbourne (PoMC), breaking their record earlier held by the CMA CGM Ural at about 10,622 TEU operated on the Australia Asia Express 2 (AAX2) service by ANL.
Like the CMA CGM Ural, the firm’s Estelle is berthed at the Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) Webb Dock. The latest edition of CMA CGM’s Estelle, with a capacity of about 10,926 TEU, operates on the services of North Europe Mediterranean Oceania.
Tim Vancampen, the CEO of VICT, said that the firm wants to congratulate the entire CMA CGM Group on their continued drive for brilliant efficiencies by deploying larger vessels with environmental benefits in the Oceania trades to support the demand of the economy and utilizing the ability to boost economies of scale. In collaboration with PoMC in the Webb Dock Development, the VICT is dedicated to aiding the Victorian shipping market with its $235 million investment that is expected to increase the ability to accommodate increasing vessel sizes.
Saul Cannon, the CEO of PoMC, reportedly welcomed the arrival of the record-breaking vessel. It is exciting to see the ship arrive at Port of Melbourne. He added that the firm is investing across the port to make sure they can accommodate larger vessels that have been calling at Melbourne.
He adds that the global shipping fleet has been deploying larger vessels. The Port of Melbourne is well-positioned to satisfy worldwide shipping trends to serve southeastern Australia’s and Victoria’s expanding freight needs now and into the future.
