Cargo containers to be loaded on ships are transported using trucks and are secured by means of standardised twistlocks.
It is necessary to unlock these twistlocks before the gantry crane picks the container off the truck. Inability to do the same means the truck will also get pulled along with the container when the gantry crane gets into action. Though this usually doesn’t happen, sometimes the twistlock might not be unlocked properly or can be forgotten completely.
(Of course, the period of time for which the truck will hang on to the container in the air will depend on the condition of the twistlocks or else it will just fall as it happens in this video.)
Watch this video which shows a truck being lifted by the crane after it is not properly detached from the container.
