Seven seamen continue to be missing after their fishing vessel had a collision with a cargo vessel on Saturday in the waters off Palawan, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Sunday.
The PCG mentioned in a statement that FB JOT-18, the Filipino fishing vessel, collided with MV Happy Hiro, a cargo vessel that was sailing with the flag of the Marshall Islands, off Maracanao Island located in Agutaya.
A transiting fishing boat aided with immediate assistance to rescue 13 of 20 crew members of FB JOT-18. Identified these: Donde Petiero (38), Roderico Mata (31), Randy Mata (36), Renie Espinosa (38), Mario Quezon (24), Sammuel Ducay (40), Rendil Dela Peña (42), Martin Flores Jr. (58), Jupiter Jbañiez (38), Andring Pasicaran (43), Jonel Mata (30), Joemar Pahid (32), and Arjay Barsaga (36).
However, seven remain missing. The fishermen had been transferred to MV Happy Hiro. Mckinley Amante, the medical officer there said 12 had suffered scratches, per the PCG.
A fisherman suffered a minor wound on his head. First aid was given to him and he is stable now, the PCG said. Authorities are continuing with their rescue operations to find the other fishermen.
For now, PCG’s search and rescue (SAR) operation continues to find the seven fishermen who were with them before such accident happened in the ocean.
