Steps have been adopted to defuel the sunken vessel MV Princess Miral, and the procedure is expected to be done within a month.
The foreign-flagged vessel reportedly ran aground off the waters of New Mangalore on 21 June 2022.
Ravi Kumar MR, the Deputy Commissioner, mentioned that the vessel is one, and attempts were made to connect with the owner. The ship was reportedly sailing for China.
It is thought that the vessel lost its direction and eventually ended up in Mangaluru, ailed to Cochin, and came to Ullal.
The defueling of furnace oil and diesel will likely be through within a month. After this phase, permission will be given to removing the steel on board, and the wreck’s salvage operation will start.
Nearly 15 Syrian mariners of the vessel reportedly abandoned it off Mangaluru owing to a breach in the ship’s hull and water ingress into the holds.
India’s Coast Guard successfully rescued the individuals. On completing the required formalities, the mariners could head home on 1 September 2022. The vessel loaded about 8000 tons of steel coil and 220 tons of fuel.
