Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas collided with a cargo ship while docked in The Bahamas. The cargo vessel hit the stern of the passenger ship.
A passenger mentioned that the ship’s captain made a prompt announcement, assuring that things were in control. The 4,252-passenger ship underwent minimal impairment and nobody was injured.
A Royal Caribbean spokeswoman said that on 20 April in Freeport, The Bahamas, a cargo vessel had established contact with Mariner of the Seas when the vessel was docked.
No individual was injured, and Mariner also experienced minimal damage. The ship is expected to continue on the itinerary as was planned.
Earlier in the month, the new chief executive officer and president of Royal Caribbean Group declared that he was considering new builds for three of the firm’s brands. Orders would be placed as soon as business is back to pre-Covid-19 levels, which are not far out.
Jason Liberty, spoke in France while overseeing his first in-person ship delivery – Celebrity Cruises’ third Edge-class ship Celebrity Beyond. He said that it may be later in 2022 or next year, but there are ships on order up to 2026, so there is some time.
