The upgrade and application of related equipment technologies have achieved breakthroughs in the Chinese shipping and shipbuilding industries.

After delivery, the tanker set sail for Brazil to conduct oil transportation functions and offers support exclusively to CNOOC’s deep-sea oil transportation activities in international waters.

With independent intellectual property rights, the NS Pioneer is a unique oil tanker designed for the Chinese share of the largest deep-water oil and gas fields in the world, Mero and Buzios, in Brazil.

The tanker boasts a carrying capacity of about 155,000 tons. It measures 279 meters in length, 48 meters in breadth, and a depth of 23.7 meters.

It adopts leading DP power-positioning technology with stable position-control functionalities and higher oil transportation safety.

The average operating depth of water in super-deep-water oil fields in Brazil is nearly 2,000 meters.

However, the climate is unstable in the area with high winds, strong waves, and harsh environmental conditions, which need high-power positioning abilities for oil tankers in oil transportation operations.

CNOOC is set to become the first-ever Chinese firm to function DP oil tankers in international and domestic waters. The firm will continue boosting reserves and production, offering stronger guarantees for its national energy security and the development of maritime power; it mentioned.
