The Chinese cargo vessel, Shin Haijo 2, has reportedly run aground between the islands of Kohama and Ishigaki in Okinawa Prefecture of Japan, per reports of Japanese broadcaster NHK, citing the coast guard of the country.
The distress signal reached around 9:30 am local time. Almost 19 crew members were successfully evacuated with the help of a helicopter.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Storm winds and strong waves were observed at the incident site.
Specialists, however, do not exclude the risk of the vessel’s sinking, media reported.
