DLNR reports crews managed to defuel a 94-foot luxury yacht that was grounded in West Maui. The Nakoa has reportedly been stranded at Honolua Bay since Monday.
The attempt to get the boat off the reef is expected to start on Sunday.
Officials declare that the defueling had taken longer than planned as the boat had been listing, making it hard to reach the fuel inside.
A helicopter reportedly removed approximately 470 gallons of petroleum products, other harmful substances, and about 14 marine batteries.
The dirt road leading to the shoreline at Līpoa Point will stay closed while salvage efforts continue.
