As Genting Hong Kong’s liquidation progresses, the media giant Disney has reportedly set its eyes on one of Genting’s work-in-progress vessels, the Global Dream. The construction work on the vessel was being done at the MV Werften shipyard, a Genting subsidiary, before Genting reportedly went bankrupt at the beginning of 2022.
Disney has been negotiating with the insolvency administrator, Christoph Morgen, associated with MV Werften, to acquire the almost-completed 208,000 gross-ton vessels.
Per its original specifications, the vessel was supposed to be about 1,122 feet long and could accommodate about 9,500 passengers and 2000 crew members.
As yet, the Global Dream is about 75% complete. Additional equipment like a roller coaster and a water park are complete but await installation.
Although if Disney had to acquire the vessel, there would have to be more work dedicated than simply finishing the ship per intentions. Several aspects of the vessel’s interior design and specific elements of the exterior of the ceaseless would have to be altered to mesh with the brand image of Disney.
The German media outlet NDR reports that Disney desires to operate the Global Dream in Asia and employ Meyer Werft, the German Shipbuilder, to finish up the vessel. The work on the ship would be executed by 2024, and the project would also reportedly secure employment for almost 950 former employees of MV Weften.
