In a major development, the French Navy has started testing its Flotlog logistic support ship. The new batiments ravitailleurs de forces (BRF) logistic support ship (LSS), Jacques Chevallier (A 725) was launched on April 29 last year.
This is one of the first BRFs that the Navy is building with the help of Chantiers de l’Atlantiqueand, the prime contractor of the Naval Group.
As per the 2019 contract, Chantiers is making the aft sections in their Saint Nazaire yard. They are also entrusted with the outfitting and overall production of the ships, which will be done according to the design supplied by the Naval Group.
The Naval Group will integrate it with their Polaris combat system. Fincantieri will make forward sections of the vessels.
An official statement on January 30 revealed that the ship started its trial from the Saint Nazaire shipyard on January 25. Currently, they are focusing on the navigation and propulsion system of the vessel. The trial run will last till June, with several follow-up tests in Toulon, Brest and Saint Nazaire. The fueling and combat system will be tested next on trial.
The ship will be handed over to the Navy in the third quarter of this year after it passes the sea acceptance tests.
