The Sierra Leone-flagged vessel named ‘Razoni’ set sail from the Ukrainian Black Sea port of Odesa in the morning for Lebanon per the deal made by Ukraine, the UN, Russia, and Turkey to avert a major global food crisis.
Mohamed Abdoh, the ship’s captain, said he was delighted. His crew was also happy to be finally able to depart from the Odesa port.
It is the first departure from when Russia invaded Ukraine and blocked shipping via the Black Sea almost five months back.

Saviano Abreu, associated with the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said that hopefully, it would be the first vessel to leave Odessa in the coming days.
Ukraine and Russia account for almost a third of the global wheat exports. But current Western sanctions placed on Russia and its fighting alongside Ukraine’s eastern seaboard have safely kept the grain ships from departing from the ports.
The deal targets to allow a safe and secure passage for grain shipments within and out of three Odesa-based ports of Odesa, Pivdennyi, and Chornomorsk.
