Here’s An Update On The Strike Situation In South Africa

Every day, containerized cargo moves through South African ports. Therefore, here’s an update that might affect your cargo planning, if your supply chain includes these ports.

Workers at South Africa’s state-owned logistics firm Transnet are on strike, impacting freight rail services and South African ports. Several terminals remain non-operational and in addition to this, Transnet Port Terminals has formally declared the occurrence of an event of Force Majeure. Business continuity plans have been activated to maintain a level of operations.

With your cargo planning in mind, please refer to the table in our operational update with the affected vessels. It provides the list of vessels going through South Africa with their related services.

While we are working on alternative solutions to keep the disruptions to your cargo planning at a minimum, we anticipate that the strike will have an impact on our local operations. With this in mind, from October 6, 2022, we would like to offer 7 days additional detention free time over the contractual free time for all container types. Any leniency on Terminal Storage will be aligned with relief offered by Transnet’s announcement.
