Hyundai Heavy Industries Group Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (HHI) succeeded in winning orders for five ships worth a total of 290 billion won. Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering announced on the 11th (Fri) that it had recently signed a contract with a shipping company in Asia and Oceania to build one 22,000 cubic meters (㎥) class LPG carrier and four 2,800TEU class container ships.
The LPG carrier ordered this time is 159.9m long, 25.6m wide, and 16.4m high, and will be built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan and delivered to ship owners in the first half of 2024.
The container ship is 186m in length, 35m in width and 17.4m in height, built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and will be delivered to ship owners sequentially from the second half of 2023. By applying the LNG dual-fuel propulsion design to these ships, they can respond to the stricter environmental regulations of the International Maritime Organization.
According to Clarkson Research, a shipbuilding and shipping market analysis agency, global LPG carrier orders are expected to reach 54 this year and 57 next year.
An official from Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering said, “Inquiries are continuing across various types of ships such as gas ships and container ships.”
