A Japan-based dynamic positioning vessel (DPV) dubbed the Shin Nichi Maru reached Calapan on Monday with a remotely operated vehicle that boasts the ability to discover a sunken tanker that resulted in an oil spillage in the Oriental Mindoro.
Shin Nichi Maru is expected to augment the search mission for the MT Princess Empress and also help pause the leakage of 800,000 liters of industrial fuel it was loaded with when it reportedly capsized on 28 February.
Victorino Acosta has reported that oil reached Isla Verde shores, with community officials on the island mentioning that it reached Barangays San Agapito, San Andres, and San Antonio.
Efforts to combat it at about 4.4 nm are in progress. There are oil sheens, and some have been making landfall in black, the PCG Batangas leader informed radio DZBB.
In the afternoon, the Coast Guard spokesperson named Armando Balilo mentioned that the island was “negative” for the oil spill following an extensive aerial inspection.
Admiral Artemio Abu, a PCG Commandant, said that the aerial assessment reflected the complete reach of this oil spill that resulted from the sunken tanker, which went down on 28 February close to Naujan in Oriental Mindoro.
