Life Support, EMERGENCY’s search and rescue vessel, has reportedly introduced its first mission into the waters of the Central Mediterranean Sea, one of the most dangerous migration channels in the world.
In 2022, over 1,300 individuals have lost their lives or disappeared attempting this crossing, with over 90% of deaths happening to drowning.

Despite the dangers, Italy and the EU are not doing adequately to guarantee a safe and legal passage. Besides, since the start of 2022, over 21,000 individuals have reportedly been intercepted and also returned to Libya, where human rights violations of migrants have consistently been documented, including torture, sexual violence, and forced labour.
