Derrent Littor, 22, a crew member employee working on the missing cargo vessel dubbed MV Dai Cat 06, mentioned that his 28-year-old sister Lyli that lately they were sleeping with their life jackets on.
Lyli mentioned that her younger brother, who had been working on the ship since 28 October last year, expressed concerns regarding the cargo, which was loaded.
The family members were wondering what happened to the youngest siblings and the vessel, which had been missing from 9 January.
Lyli and her family members urged the owner of the ship, the cargo owner, and the agent to come forward to explain the fate of the vessel to them and the authorities, apart from cooperating on the lookout for the ship.
Authorities, including the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and the Marine Department, had shared information (with family members). Still, the ship’s owner, agent, and cargo owner wouldn’t cooperate when the family tried contacting them.
On 9 January, the Malaysian-registered cargo ship, loaded with 527 pipes, valued at about RM726, 205, was reported to be missing in the waters of Indonesia, and the agent of the ship reportedly lodged a police report on that day.
Besides Derrent, the other two missing members are Mohammad Syafarizan Mohd Noor, senior officer, 24; Mohammad Sudeh Sudin, sailor, 20; Adi, shipmaster, 43, and Damai Papane Ole, chief engineer, 57.
At 1.45 pm, he informed me that he had purchased a roaming line in Singapore, and around 2 pm, they got on a video call. Near 5 pm, she dropped a message, and no reply came.
She tried calling his number, but there wasn’t any answer, Lyli said.
She added that Derrent had earlier expressed concerns regarding the ship but still went ahead with his duties to fulfil the contract with the firm, which is set to expire in April 2023.
Sandra, Derrent’s other sister, 32, mentioned that the family members were hoping no matter what, the brother would return safely.
What worries them now is that the vessel seems to be in a bad state, especially the water pump and the electrical system.
Derrent had taken up the job to pursue a career as a seaman and wanted to gain experience.
