Offshore Support Vessel Hit FPSO Due To High Seas And Bad Weather, Both Experienced Damages

Last week, an offshore support vessel named the NOR GOLIATH reportedly established contact with the new FPSO RUBY at India’s Kakinada Anchorage, Bay of Bengal, resulting in severe damages to the NOR GOLIATH gangway that is used for transferring offshore staff, and to the staircases of FPSO RUBY.

NOR GOLIATH gangway reportedly broke into two parts, with one of the parts collapsing into the water. Contact was the result of high seas and poor weather. However, no individual suffered injuries.

FPSO operator Reliance confirmed the accident on October 7. As of October 9, both vessels were reportedly anchored off Kakinada. The FPSO RUBY is expected to be deployed in the MJ gas condensate development assignment.

RUBY reached Kakinada in September from Samsung Heavy Industries, based in Korea, where she was constructed. The accident is said to result in a two-week delay in the scheduled work.
