On Tuesday, Russia’s Transneft mentioned that oil shipments to Germany from Kazakhstan via the Druzhba pipeline, exempt from recent Western sanctions, are expected to begin in February 2023, RIA Novosti reported.
The firm said it had agreed upon a contract to supply 20,000 tons of Kazakh oil to Germany in February.
TASS news agency further added that it had supplied about 500,000 tons of oil via the Druzhba pipeline to Poland.
The EU has reportedly pledged not to purchase Russia’s oil via maritime channels from 5 December as a part of broader sanctions over Ukraine.
The Soviet-developed Druzhba pipeline stays exempt from the sanctions; however, Germany’s refineries in Schwedt and Leuna, connected to the pipeline, have not placed an order for Russia’s crude for 2023.
Transneft mentioned in December 2023 that KazTransOil of Kazakhstan had reportedly requested about 1.2 million tons of capacity for 2023 on the Druzhba pipeline to enable additional oil shipments to Germany.
