Russian Found Dead In A Vessel At Odisha, The Third In A Fortnight

After the mystery surrounding the deaths of two Russians in a hotel in Rayagada, another Russian was found dead on Tuesday in Odisha.

The Russian was found dead in a vessel at the anchorage of Paradip port in the Jagatsinghpur district. He’s been identified as Milyakov Sergey, the vessel’s chief engineer, with a 23-member crew onboard, including Russian and Indian nationals.

While the reasons for the loss of life are yet to be ascertained, relevant Paradip Port authorities have started investigating. Earlier, a Russian lawmaker and businessman Pavel Antov were found dead on 24 December at a hotel in Rayagada, Odisha.

His body was found on the first-floor roof, where construction work was going. It was reported that he accidentally fell from the third floor of his room. It was the same hotel where he stayed with Vladimir Bidenov, his friend, and two other Russians.

Antov’s death happened two days after his friend, Vladimir Bidenov, was discovered unconscious at the hotel following a sudden cardiac arrest. It was further reported that Bidenov’s death was brought about due to excessive wine consumption, which resulted in a cardiac attack.

Speculation is rife regarding the death of Pavel Antov, who, per multiple media reports, was aggressively critical of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin’s special operation in Ukraine. Antov was reportedly a former lawmaker based in Russia. He is believed to have lost his life on falling from the third floor of a hotel, two days after a fellow traveller was also found dead there.

There is some speculation that Antov’s death could be a possible “hit job.” Several individuals from Russia, especially business people who are critical of Vladimir Putin, have similarly lost their lives in Russia.

However, the Russian embassy has mentioned that the Odisha Police have not yet discovered criminal links in the hotel deaths of two of the citizens.
