Scottish Vessel Capsized And Sank In The North Sea After Hitting A ‘Black Spot’

It was a dramatic moment when a Scottish vessel started to sink below the waves as it ran aground and flipped on the side, hitting a notorious “black spot” in the North Sea.

RNLI Fraserburgh Lifeboat Station based in Aberdeenshire was reportedly alerted at about 5.50 am on Monday to The Ocean Maid BA55 getting into difficulties at Cairnbulg Point. The lifeboat immediately rushed to the scene, with Coastguard teams from Fraserburgh and Peterhead scrambling to the vessel.

It is understood that The Ocean Maid BA55 ran aground at a black spot that has left several ships wrecked in recent years and happened just meters away from where the Sovereign reportedly ran aground in 2005.

Dramatic photographs reflect the vessel submerged completely and flipped on its side when it was rough and dark early morning waters. Its contents had been spilling out onto the sea.

Footage that went viral on social media shows waves crashing over a stricken vessel as it sails close to a body of rocks.

Rescuers managed to get four crew members to safety after quickly abandoning their boat on a life raft as they realised they were in trouble.

The fishermen were rushed to Fraserburgh before the Scottish Ambulance Service had checked them over.
They are believed safe and well, while the crew members were not seriously injured.

On Monday, the coastguard said that the teams had been keeping a keen eye on the vessel that appeared to be sinking below the waves but that there were no signs of pollution.

A spokesperson associated with the RNLI Fraserburgh Lifeboat Station mentioned that they asked to launch the HM Coastguard on 25 October. They responded at 5:56 am to a fishing boat that had reportedly run aground beside Cairnbulg Beacon.
