A roll-on/roll-off passenger ship with more than 260 individuals on board ran aground in the vicinity of Iloilo’s Igbon and Agho Islands on Tuesday, per the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
Per the PCG’s incident report published on Facebook, Alexander Wahing, MV Filipinas Cebu’s captain, mentioned that 223 passengers along with 38 crew members remained unharmed.
The PCG reported that MV Filipinas Cebu’s firm, Cokaliong Shipping Lines, sent a distress signal to the MV Nasipit to help the stranded passengers reach their original destination in Cebu.
MV Nasipit, however, still has to arrive, even though the distress call was made on Tuesday after midnight.
The PCG, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Concepcion, and the Bureau of Customs have responded to the incident and are now monitoring the whole situation.
The cause of the incident still needs to be determined and is under examination by the Coast Guard, when no oil spill was reported owing to the grounding.
