Six yet-to-be-identified individuals lost their lives following an accident in a vessel close to Atlas Cove, Lagos.
It’s understood that the deceased people had been working on the vessel’s tanker, recognized as MT Halima when the accident occurred.
A statement by the Nigerian Navy Vessel named BEECROFT mentioned that a distress call was received from the vessel via the Falcon Eye’s Western Region Control Centre, which is the Navy’s Maritime Domain Awareness facility.
A rescue party was reportedly dispatched from the task force of NNS BEECROFT at Atlas Cove that took off from the Takwa jetty.
The victims were evacuated to Mekwe Jetty in Victoria Island, where the vessel owner shifted them to the Military Hospital in Ikoyi for further medical treatment.
NNS BEECROFT, the commander, Abdul-Rasheed Haruna, the Rear Admiral, urged the mariners to adopt maximum safety while they operate at sea following leading international practices.
He assured the public of the unwavering commitment of Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, the Chief of the Naval Staff, in guaranteeing the security and safety of lives within the country’s maritime space.
