Three crew members were kidnapped yesterday when Grebe Bulker, a 2010-supramax that belongs to Eagle Bulk, was attacked right after midnight by pirates at the Owendo Anchorage, Gabon.
The vessel remains at anchorage, with the remaining 17 crew members reported to be unharmed.
The waters around Gabon and the Gulf of Guinea have emerged as a hotspot for piracy over the recent years, with several attacks reported by many news sources in the opening four months of this year.
The Georgian Maritime Transport Agency has been collaborating with Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to locate and facilitate the release of the kidnapped sailors. The family members of the sailors have been informed of the developments around this incident.
