A fire unexpectedly broke out on a tour vessel. It was reportedly anchored at a boat pier on Sunday in Muang district, resulting in some damages but no loss of lives or injuries, Governor Narong Woonciew mentioned.

The incident occurred at the boat pier on Ko Siray at around 7.30 am, based in tambon Ratsada, and the fire was soon taken care of. An official associated with Phuket’s marine office mentioned that Sea Angel Beyond, the boat, reportedly belongs to Sea Angel Cruise Company. The vessel measures 9 meters in width and 49.50 meters in length. It boasts three diesel engines that host 29 crew members and 490 passengers.
The vessel was registered in Phuket on 2 Nov 2016 as a tour boat operating between Ranong and Phuket. When the fire suddenly broke out, the ship went through maintenance checks. Hence, it was not in service.
Some witnesses saw flames on the boat’s right side prow, and then they heard the sound of an explosion. The officials explained that the fire reportedly destroyed parts of the ship but was successfully put out before it could spread to the engine’s compartments.
The cause is being investigated.
