Turkish Seafarer Passes Away Due To Fire On Bridge Of Cargo Ship

The 42-year-old Turkish crew member, Ulaş Yuruk from Fatsa, on a Vanuatu-flagged general cargo vessel, ‘Akua’ (IMO 8826369), was reported to be dead after a fire raged. The fire that had broken out on the bridge was extinguished. The 13 crew members included Indians, Turkish, and also Azerbaijan nationals.

The AIS is off and could possibly be damaged or destroyed when the fire was raging on the bridge. Russian media has reported that a fire had broken out in the superstructure of a cargo vessel anchored off the Temryuk Port in Russia on the morning of 10 May.

The Akua set sail from the Temryuk port on 8 May, bound for Karasu in Turkey. As of 9 May, the vessel was at the Temyruk anchorage in Russia, on the Sea of Azov.

The 1989-built and 2,980 gt Akua is owned by Aquas Ltd. care of its manager lkarbon Enerji Madencilik ve Ticaret AS of Istanbul in Turkey. It is registered with Hydor AS.
