Two individuals reportedly were charged when cocaine was discovered stuck to a Cyprus-flagged ship’s bottom in Newcastle.
Australia’s Federal Police have also informed the ABC that the two people have been charged for attempting to keep a commercial amount of cocaine, a border-controlled drug.
Some dockside sources informed the ABC regarding the quantity of cocaine that was allegedly attached to a bulk carrier named Stalo’s hull.
The AFP has reportedly added that the vessel was at GrainCorp’s Carrington terminal based in Newcastle.
Port workers mentioned that it reached on Tuesday from China under police escort.
The Port of Newcastle said it cannot reveal more information since the authorities are now dealing with the matter.
The matter is now being examined jointly by the NSW State Crime Command and the AFP.
In a statement, the AFP says inquiries regarding the matter are proceeding. It adds that further details are going to be shared when appropriate.
