Two Missing Individuals After Cargo Ship Collision Off Western Japan

The coast guard reported that a Japanese cargo vessel reportedly sank in the Seto Inland Sea off Ehime’s western prefecture after colliding with yet another cargo vessel, resulting in two crew members missing.

Per the Imabari Coast Guard’s Office, a 716-ton cargo vessel dubbed Seiryu ran into a collision with the 499-ton Koei Maru off the Imabari City coast of Ehime Prefecture at about 19:30 local time on Thursday, per reports from the Xinhua news agency.

With five crew members aboard, the coast guard mentioned that the Seiryu capsized and sank before 21:00 (per local time). He added that three crew members were rescued while the others continued missing.

In the meantime, it has been confirmed that all four individuals aboard the Koei Maru are safe.

The Imabari Coast Guard has been looking for the two missing people in nearby waters while also examining the details of the accident.
