Vessel Carrying Fertiliser Collides With Another Ship, Sinks In Poshur Channel Of Bangladesh’s Mongla Port

On the night of Tuesday, a vessel sank in the Poshur channel of the Mongla Port, Bangladesh. The incident happened when it hit another vessel. 

The harbour master of the port, Captain Mohammed Shaheen Majeed, said that the ship MV Shahjalal Express was going to Jashore’s Nawapara.

Before the accident, it had loaded around 500 tons of fertilisers from another vessel.

The reason for the collision is said to be dense fog, due to which it collided with a foreign ship, MV Supreme Valor. This happened at 11 pm on Tuesday night. 

After this, the ship got submerged in the waters of the Poshur Channel. 

Per the coast guard, 8 crew members were rescued from the ship. 

The harbour master mentioned that the ship’s owner has been asked to salvage it.

According to the port regulations, if the owner does not retrieve it within 15 days, the authorities will take action and salvage it.
