The captain of the Cathlamet ferry has reportedly submitted his resignation after he crashed the vessel into a dock structure based at the Fauntleroy terminal on Thursday, Ian Sterling, the Washington State Ferries spokesman, reported on Monday.
The crash resulted in an estimated $5–$7 million in damages to the ferry. At least two cars were impaired.

A person was believed to be in one of the cars during the crash, even though there were no injuries.
It is not clear what caused the crash. Ferry officials added that the alcohol and drug tests of the crew members came clean.
After seeing a video of the incident, officials mentioned that it was evident that the ferry was going way too fast while being close to the dock.
The Cathlamet was taken to the Washington State Ferries maintenance facility based in Eagle Harbor, where part of the repair work would be done. A car remained stuck on the Cathlamet ferry when it was taken away.
Sterling mentioned that a significant amount of work would be executed at an outside shipyard.
It’s not known how long the ferry will be non-operational. However, Sterling has informed us that it will take several months to be fixed.
WSF is currently working on an insurance claim.
WSF, the National Transportation Safety Board, and the Coast Guard are examining the matter.
