Video: Major Refit of Heavy Crane Vessel Stanislav Yudin

In November 2013, Damen’s Shiprepair & Conversion facility in Rotterdam began work on a major refit of the Stanislav Yudin, a 24,800 tonne heavy crane vessel owned and operated by Seaway Heavy Lifting (SHL). Built in 1985 in Finland, her primary equipment is a 2,500 Gusto MSC tonne revolving crane, together with a 500 tonne auxiliary hook and a 30 tonne trolley hoist.

In the space of just four and half months Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam (DSR) completed a complex refurbishment that included a complete upgrade of the accommodation – designed for 151 persons – and the underlying machinery spaces.

Complete rebuild of the accommodation sections

A highlight of the project was the upgrade of the accommodation and underlying machinery spaces. Both were almost completely stripped out and underwent a complete upgrade. This involved the installation of extensive new electrical and hotel systems and the addition of an extra deck to compensate for the larger size of the new cabins

Throughout the project, the safety of the personnel working on board was the top priority. All the contractors were encouraged to view the zero tolerance of injury and incident as a common responsibility, and safety officers were constantly present to ensure that the highest safety standards were observed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
