World’s Greatest Ocean-Going Wooden Sailing Vessel To Visit Gibraltar In April 2023

The world’s most giant ocean-going wooden sailing vessel, the Götheborg of Sweden, is going to make Gibraltar the second stopover on its European Tour this year. It’s the first time the ship has visited Gibraltar.

Götheborg is going to be in Gibraltar from 6 April to 9 April and is expected to be mooring at the Mid Harbour Marina.

Götheborg of Sweden is the replica of an 18th-century merchant vessel that belonged to the Swedish East India Company that sank out of Gothenburg back in 1745.

The replica took 10 years to construct and was introduced 20 years back, in 2003. This year, the vessel is sailing in Europe and invites guests to flow as deckhands on board or visit the ship when it is in port.

Coming from Sète, Gibraltar will be the second stopover on the European Tour. Following the stopover in Gibraltar, an adventurous sailing leg via the Straits of Gibraltar, across the Bay of Biscay, and along the coast of Portugal is still waiting.

The vessel will be moored at the central location of Mid Harbour Marina. It will be open to the public if it stays in Gibraltar.

In 2022, Götheborg of Sweden got much attention for her expedition. She had 13 stopovers in 11 nations across Europe. Over 60,000 individuals visited the vessel during different stopovers, and 500 sailed with the ship as deckhands.

One of the most noticed and publicized stopovers was in London, where thousands warmly greeted the vessel as she was sailing up the Thames and passing Tower Bridge.
