China’s Wuhu Shipyard stated that it had been contracted to build eight methanol-ready product tankers (18,500 tons) for undisclosed buyers who are “well-known ship-owners” both at home and abroad.
Boasting a cargo capacity of about 21,000 cubic meters and a length of approximately 150 meters, the vessel design meets the emission standards of IMO Tier III.
The vessels will be capable of transporting IMO Type II chemicals, including biofuels and methanol.
Revealing the contract, which was booked in Q1 2023, Wuhu Shipyard highlighted that over the past five years, it had focused extensively on liquid cargo technology, including for LNG vessels, and has appealed to business from domestic as well as European ship-owners.
The yard flagged the delivery of its first ship this year. On 31 March, the 5,000-ton crude oil tanker dubbed Beihai Changshun was delivered successfully to Shanghai Beihai Shipping Co., Ltd.
